10 Different Types of Heels Every Woman Should Know
High heels are more than just a fashion statement for today's women. They have been around since the 1100s. The first people to wear boots with a heel were the Persian cavalry. High heels helped warriors who shot arrows on horseback stay upright and stable, and if you owned a horse and wore high heels, you were considered wealthy. It was only later that high heels became what we are accustomed to today. The first example of a platform shoe can be seen on a statue from about the 1300s at the Ramappa Temple in India.
High heels have changed many times throughout history. During medieval times, both men and women wore platform shoes to protect themselves from garbage and other dirty things that people threw into the streets. In the 1800s, Massachusetts had a law stating that women who wore high heels to lure men into marriage were witches.
In today's world, high heels are still changing. There are dozens of different styles, and more are being created, but the basic principles of style can be combined. Here are 10 different types of heels every woman should know about.
